Baking Brilliance Since 1980

Over 30 years ago, John Peck and his team have began to make cakes, shortbreads and flapjacks, thinking that if he liked them, others might like them too! The Peck and Strong range are not manufactured, they are made by hand simply from the finest, raw ingredients.

Quality and the customer experience is what comes first, as such there is no corner cutting, processed ingredients or minimal machinery. Each product has its own distinctive signature taste, encompassing carefully balanced, great flavours.

Sure enough, when John offered his products for sale, people loved them as much as he did.

A brief history

It all began in the tiny kitchen of his Devon cottage…

John Peck starts to make Flapjacks and Vegetarian Pasties – dishes he enjoyed himself, thinking others might like them just as much. Selling initially to the Coffee Bar at Exeter University, then to a handful of local shops.

John Peck goes into partnership with Mr Strong. They create a small kitchen in a Victorian former brewery in Exeter. Their small range of cakes and slices starts to grow.

Some things haven’t changed. Cooking by hand, just as he did in 1980, John Peck still makes those dishes he enjoys himself — and now we know others really do like them as much as he does!

Environment

We value and contribute to projects spanning climate change, sustainability, and support ‘Friends of the Earth’…

We reduce to the absolute minimum Peck and Strong’s negative contribution to global warming by generating over half of our electricity requirement ourselves!

We purchase the remainder of our electricity requirement from 100% renewable sources, principally wind, followed by solar and biogeneration.

Jointly with others, we invest in worldwide projects which not only cut carbon emissions, but also improve living conditions within the participating communities.

Our Raspberry Jam is made for us by Highfield Preserves of Tiverton.

Eggs come from our friends (and their hens) at Black Dog Free Range Eggs.

We are Bramley fans,  ours come from Fourayes Farm in Kent.

We select gorgeously Dark Chocolate from Barry Callebaut.

We cook our own Caramel, boiling up Condensed Milk until the colour and flavour are Just Right.

We insist on Glacé Cherries from Maison Léopold Marliagues who have been candying cherries in Provence for 170 years.
